Get Support on Testifying Against H. 4624, Anti-Transgender Youth Healthcare Bill
The House Medical and Health Affairs Subcommittee just scheduled a hearing on H.4624, a cruel ban on medically necessary healthcare for transgender youth, for the very first day of legislative session – Tuesday, January 9. We've long known that some extremist lawmakers have their eyes set on harming transgender youth – but this is a signal that they are trying to fast-track this awful bill.
The subcommittee meeting may be the only chance for the public to testify in support of trans youth healthcare access in 2024 – so we want to be sure you know how to take action. There are three ways to testify:
Attend the Hearing in Person: The most impactful way to speak out is in person – by attending the subcommittee hearing on Tuesday at Room 427 in the Blatt Building of the South Carolina State House. To do that, you don't need to sign up ahead of time, but please let us know that you're coming, so we can keep in touch and coordinate logistics with you. We expect the subcommittee hearing to begin Tuesday afternoon; folks who plan on attending should convene with us at 1:45pm. Tell us you’re coming at the form below – but note that submitting this form does NOT officially sign you up with the state as a testifier.
Sign Up to Testify Virtually: You can provide oral testimony via Microsoft Teams – but you must sign up by noon this Friday. To sign up, send an email 3M1Health@schouse.gov to receive an invitation the day before the meeting. Note that sometimes Teams does not function properly because of tech issues and you may not be able to testify.
Submit Written Testimony: If you cannot attend the meeting virtually or in person, you may submit your testimony opposing H. 4624 by writing it out and emailing it to 3M1Health@schouse.gov by noon on Friday.
Need support with your testimony, or want to stay in touch on Tuesday, January 9 with all of the logistics? Please add your name below and our Rapid Response Organizing Team will be in touch directly.
