January 19 – Kick Off the 2023 Legislative Session by Showing Up for LGBTQ+ Equality
The SC United for Justice & Equality coalition is excited to invite LGBTQ+ and allied South Carolinians for a Day of Action in Columbia, SC on January 19, 2023, starting at 8:30am and running through the afternoon. This day will be an opportunity for us to come together, be in community, and take action in support of LGBTQ+ equality. Here’s the schedule:
8:30am – Coffee Hour with Legislators: Join SC United coalition members and South Carolina lawmakers to talk about legislation impacting the LGBTQ+ community. (318 Blatt)
9:30am – Press Conference on the Steps of the Capitol: Legislative champions and SC United coalition members will come together for a press conference about steps forward for the LGBTQ+ community and why we must reject anti-LGBTQ+ legislation. (South Steps of the SC Statehouse)
10:45am – 1:00pm – Please join us down the street at 1208 Washington Place for a Storytelling Workshop (with lunch included, on us) that will help you get briefed on LGBTQ-related bills, be ready to testify on LGBTQ-inclusive bills at the statehouse, and share your story with media and lawmakers. RSVP to Adam Polaski at adam@southernequality.org.
The surge of anti-LGBTQ+ legislation nationwide – including a slate of awful bills filed this session – have shown us just how important it is to stand up for the rights and protections that all people deserve. Together, we can push back on anti-LGBTQ+ attacks and call for the protections that we need.
The day of action will include opportunities to learn about anti-LGBTQ legislation, speak with lawmakers about anti-LGBTQ bills, and raise our voices in the media.
Please let us know if you can attend – just sign up here, and we’ll keep you posted with all of the logistical details:
