Join Us at the SC Statehouse For Trans Week of Resistance

We’re in the final two weeks before the South Carolina Statehouse’s legislative crossover deadline – the date by which bills must have been approved by a full chamber if they’re going to continue to be considered this session. With a raft of awful legislation pending in both the House and the Senate, this is the absolute “go time” – an all-hands-on-deck moment where we need every supporter of LGBTQ+ dignity and equality to show up and speak out. We’re working to defeat an anti-trans student sports bill, a bill that sanctions anti-LGBTQ “conversion therapy,” bills that restrict access to abortion care, and bills that censor curriculum to erase racial justice and LGBTQ identity from educational discussions.

That’s why next week we’re hosting Trans Week of Resistance, a Rapid Response mobilization effort that will help ensure we can pack the Statehouse with LGBTQ+ supporters and speak out to block discriminatory bills. This will take place in the days leading up to Trans Day of Visibility on March 31. Here’s a look at the schedule (Exact times and meeting points will be communicated after you RSVP):

  • Tuesday 3/29, starting at 12pm: We’ll gather to pack the statehouse and oppose a series of bad bills, including those that would censor discussions of racial and LGBTQ identity in school curriculum and those that would restrict access to abortion care.

  • Wednesday, 3/30, starting at 11:30am: A subcommittee hearing is scheduled in the House Education Committee on H.4608, the anti-trans student sports bill. We’ll need to pack the room with folks ready to testify against the anti-transgender bill and send a message that trans youth belong. Please, if you can make it to the statehouse, testifying at this hearing is critical.

  • Thursday, 3/31 at 8am: We’re hosting a public press event for Transgender Day of Visibility. Any ally or trans person is invited and encouraged to join us on the steps of the Statehouse.

Can you commit to attending one of these days of action? Add your information below, and we’ll get in touch as soon as we know logistical details via text and email.
