Testify for SC’s LGBTQ+ Youth at the Children’s Committee Hearings
Calling all parents, families, teachers, organizations, and those working with children! We need your help to ensure the well-being and safety of LGBTQ+ youth remain at the forefront of South Carolina policymakers’ minds.
Every year the Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children hosts a series of annual fall hearings – a powerful opportunity for South Carolinians to influence future policies that concern our children across the state.
To testify, send the committee an email at comments@mailbox.sc.edu. Let them know which hearing you’ll be testifying for, and whether it will be virtual or in person. Learn more about signing up here.
And check out helpful resources from SC United coalition partner WREN: Women’s Rights & Empowerment Network.
Here are the meeting dates and locations for the next month:
September 23: Columbia (10am-12pm and 5pm-7pm)
September 30: Greenville (5pm-7pm)
October 7: Florence (5pm-7pm)
October 14: Charleston (5pm-7pm)
This year, South Carolinian communities from all walks of life have successfully protected youth to push back against anti-transgender discrimination. Through growing public support, we were able to push for local protections for minors in Columbia from anti-LGBTQ “conversion therapy.”
These are issues that concern children, and they need to be heard at these Children’s Committee meetings. Learn more about testifying here, and click here for resources from WREN.
Thank you,
