Action Steps to Reject Total Abortion Ban in South Carolina
Ever since the Dobbs ruling in June, lawmakers in South Carolina have been working toward a full and outright ban on abortion access in our state, making a dire situation even worse. SC already has an extreme abortion law on the books (now halted by the courts), and while it was in effect for six weeks, it caused immeasurable harm to South Carolina's families.
Next week the SC Senate is poised to take up abortion legislation again – a full ban on abortion from the moment of conception, with no exceptions at all – H. 5399. There are two important ways you can help:
1. Join our coalition partners and supporters of abortion access at the SC State House the morning of Wednesday, November 9. The team at WREN – Women's Rights & Empowerment Network – will keep you posted on all of the logistics. The conference committee convenes at 10:00am.
2. We ask everyone to call your senator immediately and tell them to vote NO on H. 5399. Phone calls and in-person meetings are the MOST effective thing you can do to move legislators. By November 8, please call —or visit —your senator. Even if you've called once, call again, and if you can make an in-person connection, that's even better. Identify yourself as a CONSTITUENT, the most powerful voice there is, and ask your Senator to vote NO. to H.5399. A friendly office assistant will answer and note your views. Here's a tool you can use to make a direct call right now.
