Join Our Virtual “Know Your Rights“ Back to School Town Hall!

Lawmakers spent the entire 2024 legislative session pushing through harmful anti-LGBTQ+ policies, and successfully passed a gender-affirming care ban for trans youth (including a forced outing provision for schools), a K-12 transgender bathroom ban, and a school censorship bill that’s likely to target LGBTQ+ literature. These policies put LGBTQ+ students at risk for discrimination in the classroom, and should never have become law. As students head back to school in a few weeks, it’s especially important for families to know your rights and the resources available if you or your child experience discrimination in the classroom.

That’s why the SC United For Justice coalition, in partnership with ACLU SC, AFFA Action, Harriet Hancock Center, and Uplift Outreach Center, is hosting a virtual “Know Your Rights” Back to School Town Hall from 6-7pm on August 6th. We’ll share accurate information about the new laws impacting students, resources for LGBTQ+ K-12 students to know their rights in the classroom, and ways folks can join the fight to protect LGBTQ+ students. These discriminatory policies have no place in South Carolina, and it’s time to come together to make sure students get the safe, inclusive education they deserve.

Please RSVP for our August 6th virtual Town Hall in South Carolina, and we’ll follow up with the Zoom link where you can join the event.
