We are seeking a team of part-time contract hybrid organizers to engage in rapid response organizing at the SC Statehouse during the 2025 South Carolina legislative session. Duties include assisting with organizing rallies and events at the SC Statehouse, virtually canvassing volunteers passionate about LGBTQIA+ rights in South Carolina, assisting with organizing text and phone banking virtual events, and engaging in outreach to drive attendance to hearings, events, and other activities at the South Carolina Statehouse.
About the Position:
SC United for Justice and Equality is seeking a team of organizers to engage in rapid response organizing at the SC Statehouse during the 2025 South Carolina legislative session. This is a part-time contract hybrid position that will average 5 -15 hours per week from January 1, 2025 to June 15, 2025 (with the potential to continue if the session goes longer). This position is primarily virtual but will require regular travel to the South Carolina Statehouse in Columbia, SC. Duties will include: attending weekly planning meetings, assisting with organizing rallies and events at the SC Statehouse, virtually canvassing volunteers passionate about LGBTQIA+ and trans organizing in South Carolina, assisting with organizing text and phone banking virtual events, and engaging in outreach to drive attendance to hearings, events, and other activations at the SC Statehouse.
An ideal candidate would be a self-motivated person who enjoys working as part of a fast paced team in a political environment and advocating for LGBTQIA+ justice. Fluency speaking about TGNC issues, and working with TGNC people is essential for this position. Community organizing experience is preferred but not required. BIPOC, TGNC, and LGBQIA people are strongly encouraged to apply.
Roles and Responsibilities can include:
Legislative Monitoring & Analysis:
Track bills and legislative activity that could impact the LGBTQIA+ community.
Provide rapid analysis of bills and updates to the coalition on potential risks or opportunities.
Engage with legal experts in our local partner organizations to assess potential harms or benefits of specific legislative actions.
Direct Advocacy:
Mobilize supporters and members to contact lawmakers, attend hearings, and participate in rallies or protests.
Develop rapid response campaigns (email, social media, phone banking) to pressure legislators and influence public opinion.
Coordinate lobbying efforts, including direct communication with our lobbying team, legislators, and legislative staff.
Communications & Media Relations:
Draft and disseminate op-eds, emails, and social media posts to respond to legislative developments in real-time.
Coordinate media outreach with our communications team to amplify the coalition’s voice in the press and ensure rapid response to media inquiries.
Community Mobilization:
Quickly inform and activate member organizations and allies for protests, rallies, or other public demonstrations.
Organize emergency town halls or virtual meetings to inform the community about legislative developments.
Engage volunteers in rapid-response action teams for event organizing, flyering, or digital activism.
Data & Reporting:
Maintain real-time tracking of legislative outcomes and community engagement efforts.
Report regularly to coalition leadership on progress, shifts in legislation, and impact of rapid response efforts.
Compensation:
This contract position will pay an hourly rate of $25/hour. Reimbursement will be provided for gas, lodging, and food for travel to Columbia.

In 2020, SC United for Justice & Equality Coalition (SC United) was founded in response to coordinated legislative attacks on transgender individuals in South Carolina. SC United brings together multiple LGBTQIA+ groups and allies with a shared vision of building infrastructure and capacity for LGBTQIA+ organizations across the state. SC United aims to strengthen partnerships statewide and confront ongoing and future political challenges with a proactive and organized framework.
