Speak Out for LGBTQ+ Youth By Testifying Before the SC Children's Committee!

Over the next few weeks the Joint Citizens and Legislative Committee on Children (JCLCC) will be hosting meetings throughout the state, and it's a great opportunity to provide information to legislators from the House and Senate, as well as key stakeholders who shape many policies that affect the children on South Carolina.

Every year the JCLCC hosts hearings across South Carolina that offer a unique opportunity to influence the policy making process from start to finish, rather than waiting until a bill is actively moving through the legislature. If you are able to attend a hearing and testify in support of LGBTQ+ youth or another issue close to your heart, we strongly encourage you to do so.

Below are the remaining hearing times and locations:

  • Charleston - September 22, 2022 - 5p-7p - Charleston County Council Chambers - 4045 Bridge View Drive, North Charleston

  • Greenville - September 29, 2022 - 5p-7p - Greenville County Council Chambers - 301 University Ridge

  • Columbia - October 12, 2022 - 9a-12p - SC Statehouse Grounds - Gressette Building (Senate Building) Room 105

  • Columbia - October 12, 2022 - 5p-8p - SC Statehouse Grounds - Gressette Building (Senate Building) Room 105

Each person has five minutes to testify, and during that time, you can talk about any issue area that impacts LGBTQ+ young people. We'd love to have folks testify specifically about

  • Gender Affirming Care for Minors

  • Support for LGBTQ+ Youth in Schools

  • Opposition to curriculum censorship proposals

  • Mental Health for LGBTQ+ Youth

  • Inclusive, comprehensive Sex Education

If you are interested in testifying, please respond to this message or email info@southcarolinaunited.org. It is also strongly recommended that you also sign up to testify prior to the hearings. You can email comments@mailbox.sc.edu to sign up. You should include your preferred location in that email.

Thank you all for everything you do for LGBTQ+ people across South Carolina.
