Nearly one hundred supporters of transgender equality packed the Statehouse in Columbia today, a strong show of opposition against H.4608.

Already, terrible "provisos" have been proposed for the state budget – including those related to sanctioning 'conversion therapy,' banning transgender-affirming healthcare, censoring curriculum, and restricting access to abortion care.

Organizers successfully held off many extreme bills from advancing by last week’s crossover deadline; now, all attention turns to H.4776 and H.4608.

Lawmakers filed nearly 1,000 amendments to H.4608 and prompted eight hours of debate on the bill, illustrating the legislation’s contradictions and dangerous flaws.

More than a dozen proponents of transgender dignity shared testimony against a bill that would restrict students from participating in school sports – then walked out of the hearing as anti-transgender forces shared disrespectful testimony.

On Thursday, March 31 at 8:00am ET, LGBTQ+ advocates and allies will gather in Columbia at the SC Statehouse for an event to mark Transgender Day of Visibility.

Next week we’re hosting Trans Week of Resistance, a Rapid Response mobilization effort that will help ensure we can pack the Statehouse with LGBTQ+ supporters and speak out to block discriminatory bills.

Bill restricting transgender students from participating in school sports is advanced the same week that Republican governors in Indiana and Utah veto similar legislation.
